Frozen halal meat in bulk for importers and wholesalers

Frozen halal beef, lamb, veal and poultry for longer storage and transport. Format, packaging, durability date and documents are stated in each offer.

In brief

Carcasses, primals, portions and minced meat, frozen.

Storage and transport temperatures agreed and documented per order.

For export: documents clarified for each destination country.

When is frozen halal meat the right choice?

Frozen meat suits longer transport routes, export markets, stock planning and kitchens with changing demand. Chilled meat has a shorter shelf life and is chosen where fresh product is expected.

Importers outside the EU often buy frozen meat because transport times and customs procedures are easier to plan. The durability date and storage conditions are stated on the label and in the offer.

Which temperatures apply to frozen meat?

Frozen meat is usually stored at -18 °C or colder. For quick-frozen foods, EU law requires a product temperature of -18 °C or colder, with only brief upward fluctuations during transport.

Legal basis: Council Directive 89/108/EEC on quick-frozen foodstuffs (EUR-Lex). In addition, Annex II, Section IV of Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 (EUR-Lex) requires that the date of production and the date of freezing of frozen food of animal origin are made available to the buyer.

Can frozen halal meat be exported to MENA countries?

Yes, provided the import rules of the destination country are met. These usually include a veterinary health certificate, a halal certificate from a body recognised in that country and specific labelling.

Many importing countries keep their own lists of recognised halal certifying bodies. We clarify for each destination which documents and which certifying body are required before the offer is made.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long can frozen meat be stored?

The durability date is set by the producer and depends on species, cut and packaging. It is stated on the label and in the offer.

Can I order a full container?

Container and part loads can be requested. Volumes, loading and transport are agreed per order.

Can one shipment contain several species?

Yes. Mixed loads can be agreed, with each product labelled and documented separately.

What is the safe way to thaw frozen meat from a carton?

Thaw it slowly in a refrigerator at chill temperatures, in a container that catches the thawing liquid. Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 requires thawing to be carried out so that the risk of microbial growth is minimised.

Can thawed meat be refrozen?

As a rule, no, because quality and food safety suffer. Meat sold after thawing must carry the indication defrosted under Annex VI of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.

What does the date of freezing on the label mean?

Frozen meat, frozen meat preparations and frozen unprocessed fishery products must state the date of first freezing, under Annex III of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. It tells you how long the product has been frozen, in addition to the best-before date.

What is the difference between individually frozen and block-frozen meat?

Individually frozen pieces can be taken out one by one, which suits kitchens with changing demand. Block-frozen products are frozen together in a carton and are often used for further processing. Which format is available depends on the product and the supplying plant.

How is frozen meat transported?

In refrigerated trucks or containers set to keep the product at −18 °C or colder, with temperature recording agreed per order. See our guide to the cold chain for what to agree with the carrier.

How can I tell whether frozen meat has partly thawed?

Warning signs are soft or deformed cartons, frozen drip or large ice crystals inside the packaging, and product temperatures above −18 °C. Note any such finding on the delivery note, take photos and inform us immediately.

How are frozen cartons labelled?

Each carton is labelled with product name, origin, lot, identification mark, net weight, date of freezing and best-before date. Pallet labels and the order of loading are agreed for each shipment.
